The custom wave shaper, made possible through a generous grant by The Golden Leaf Foundation, will not only be the centerpiece for the 2013 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships, but the submerged structure creates a world-class kayaking wave that is free and open to the public with a safe and user-friendly eddy immediately below it. The World Championship event and wave shaper is run by an organizing committee with members from the Swain County TDA, NOC, Endless River Adventures, Nantahala Racing Club, Duke Energy and other stakeholders. In the picture above, the new wave shaper is the section of whitewater furthermost downstream, closest to the bridge.
